WXIT ranks second among 1519 Chinese higher vocational colleges in the newly-published list of China’s top 1000 higher vocational colleges in terms of competitiveness in 2023, which marks another breakthrough made by the Institute after taking the third place in the 2022 List.
The 2023 List defines evaluation target based on 2022 List of China’s Higher Education Institutions in accordance with actual admission conditions of colleges. The evaluation on higher vocational colleges covers 1519 colleges, among which 1487 are higher vocational and technical colleges, and 32 are colleges providing higher vocational undergraduate education. It makes it public undergraduate major competitiveness ranking of colleges providing vocational undergraduate education for the first time this year. A total of 1139 rankings are published upon evaluation in 12 sectors including campus, location, type, major category, major type, major and major clusters. Higher vocational colleges include higher technical colleges and vocational undergraduate colleges. They are evaluated according to 5 primary indicators, 35 secondary indicators and more than 100 observation points in 2023. This year’s evaluation adds results of provincial-level “Double High-levels Plan” (namely the development of high-level higher vocational college and major with Chinese characteristics) and primary indicators in ideological and political development (including three secondary indicators and thirteen tertiary indicators). Outstanding talent sector adds Huang Yanpei Vocational Education Award; talent cultivation quality sector adds national youth post pacesetter and the stars of self-improvement; student competition sector adds World Skills Competition; secondary indicators of integration of industry and education sector add pilot joint development of majors, college-enterprise cooperation and development of modern industry school; secondary indicators of innovation and entrepreneurship add innovation and entrepreneurship school, practice base, outstanding achievements and others. The list achieves a balance between scale and benefit, quantity and quality, as well as teaching and practice, and covers absolute, relative, traditional and emerging indicators.
With the advancement of the work of building the Institute into the A-grade college in national “Double High-levels Plan” (namely the development of high-level higher vocational college and major with Chinese characteristics), we’ve achieved rapid progress in talent cultivation, education, R&D, social services and others. The Institute enjoys dominant advantages in such indicators as quantity and level of major teaching and research projects, as well as social reputation in particular. By following the guidance of the fifth National Congress of the CPC, the Institute strives to develop major clusters of intelligent manufacturing into a national model and achieve the goal of building a world-class institute with Chinese characteristics.
It is reported that the list is jointly launched by the Chinese Academy of Science and Education Evaluation (CASEE) of Hangzhou Dianzi University, Zhejiang Academy of Higher Education (ZAHE) and Development Strategy and Evaluation Research Center for Strong Province of Higher Education, the Research Center for Chinese Science Evaluation of Wuhan University, and the Network of Science & Education Evaluation in China (www.nseac.com). Four evaluation reports respectively on Chinese university, world university, postgraduate education and academic journal will be published at fixed period. It is acknowledged by the industry that the ranking of Chinese Higher Vocational Colleges in terms of competitiveness is one that is most authentic, comprehensive and professional. According to the results of the 2023 Golden Apple Competitiveness Ranking of Chinese Higher Vocational and Technical Colleges, Shenzhen Polytechnic, Wuxi Institute of Technology, Zibo Vocational Institute, Guangdong Industry Polytechnic and Beijing Polytechnic are in the top five. At the same time, WXIT ranks first among all higher vocational colleges of science and engineering in China.
